A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
