Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for questions to be asked about his future following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant support from the top,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, Slot said:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”

Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction

The manager expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.

“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”

He concluded, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
