Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then located multiple other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police state initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.

City officials stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for details.

A senior political figure stated the incident made him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
