Democrats Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced outrage after Donald Trump charged a group of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and stated they should be taken into custody and punished "by death" following their publication of a controversial video.

The Content That Triggered the Controversy

The clip, published on earlier this week, includes six Democratic congress members who formerly acted in armed forces or security capacities.

"As we did, you all took an pledge to protect and support this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the 90-second video. "And right now, the dangers to our democratic foundation are not only from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our regulations are clear, you can decline illegal orders, you can refuse improper directives, you have to refuse improper directives. No one has to execute commands that break the legal system or our constitution."

Trump's Furious Reply

The recorded statement appeared to provoke a angry response from the ex-president.

On later in the week, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional message, he stated: "This represents really bad, and Risky to our Country. Their words cannot be allowed to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent post, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Officials React

Following Trump's remarks on that day, Top Democrats issued a combined statement censuring the comments.

"Partisan aggression has no position in America," they wrote. "Elected officials who participated in the video all acted our country with great loyalty and excellence. We strongly censure Donald Trump's offensive and risky threats of violence against members of Congress, and urge Republican lawmakers to strongly do the same."

The party representatives also mentioned that they had been in communication with protective services "to guarantee the safety of these members and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these radical online messages and withdraw his violent language before he gets someone killed," the statement stated.

Lawmakers' Strong Response

The lawmakers who participated in the video also published a statement.

"We serve as veterans and security experts who care for this country and swore an vow to protect and uphold the national charter of the United States," they declared. "That oath lasts a lifetime, and we aim to maintain it. No intimidation, coercion, or incitement will prevent us from that fundamental obligation."

"What's most telling is that the president views it liable to punishment by death for us to repeat the legal requirements," they continued. "Armed forces members should know that we have their backs as they carry out their oath to the constitution and responsibility to adhere to only legal commands. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "The entire nation must join forces and denounce the ex-president's calls for our death and political violence. This is a period for principled stance."

Additional Partisan Comments

The Democratic Senate minority leader also condemned Trump's remarks and posted on online networks: "It's important to understand: the President of the United States is demanding the capital punishment of government members."

He added: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. All senators, every Representative, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should denounce this right away and absolutely."

The Conservative official supported Trump's claim that the Democrats had been involved in "rebellion", describing the video as "wildly inappropriate", stating: "This represents very harmful, you have important representatives of Congress instructing troops to disobey orders, I think that represents unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Republican leader also according to sources told journalists that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "describing the violation of rebellion" but that "attorneys have to examine the terminology and determine all that."

Administration Statement

During a administration briefing on that day, when questioned by a media member, "Is the president want to kill members of Congress?", the White House press secretary responded: "Certainly not."

"It's important to note about what the ex-commander in chief is addressing," the spokesperson declared. "There are current representatives of the American legislature who coordinated to orchestrate a video message to individuals of the US military, to current military personnel urging them to defy the commander in chief's legal commands."

She added: "The sanctity of our armed forces depends on the hierarchy, and if that structure is compromised, it can result in people getting killed, it can lead to disorder, and precisely what these elected officials ... are fundamentally promoting."
