American performer Pat Finn, who appeared in beloved television series such as Friends, "Seinfeld" and "The Middle", has succumbed at 60 years old.

The comedic improv actor passed away at his residence in Los Angeles this Monday after undergoing treatment for cancer beginning in 2022, according to reports.

"He considered no one a stranger - only friends he had yet to meet," his relatives stated in a message.

They added that he had "lived his life fully - with happiness and energy".

A Prolific Career on Screen

Finn's first television role was on a show starring George Wendt in the mid-90s, where he appeared as the brother of the main character.

He was also seen in a recurring role on "Murphy Brown" in the latter half of the 1990s.

He appeared as the character Joe Mayo in Seinfeld in 1998, playing a social organizer known to delegate unpleasant chores to his guests.

Throughout the end of the 90s and start of the 2000s, he had guest spots on a variety of hit series, like:

  • "King of Queens"
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • House

His most famous role for his portrayal of Bill Norwood in The Middle, featuring across eight series between 2011 and 2018.

His cinematic roles encompass It's Complicated (2009) and "Santa Paws 2".

A Life in Improv

Outside of his on-screen roles, Finn was a skilled improviser and served as an educator at the University of Colorado, where he was an adjunct professor.

He was part of a comedy group of six known as "Beer Shark Mice".

"Finn guided, supported, and advised numerous pupils throughout the years and it would be difficult to find anyone who has anything negative to say about him," his family wrote.

Paying homage, colleague and actor Richard Kind said there was "no kinder, gentler, funnier, down to earth person you could encounter".

"Consistently upbeat, making those around him better and funnier. An excellent dad and person," he posted on social media.

Pat Finn is survived by his partner Donna, his three kids, and his family.
