The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Renowned for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.

Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the pastel suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in crafting sculptural silhouettes made him a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included several ensembles for her US tour after assuming the title.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.
