Citizens have assembled throughout the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023, as negotiations continued in Egypt over a resolution to the conflict in Gaza.

The assault resulted in over 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely most lethal day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as trustworthy by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"Our violent adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also vowed to "realize all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will no longer present a threat to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities postponed formal remembrance events until mid-October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still occurred around the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of people who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the families themselves, it was televised throughout Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was held around the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' delegations convened in the North African coastal city of the Egyptian city for a second day of indirect talks to examine the terms of the proposal.

A high-ranking delegate involved in the talks said that an late session of negotiations began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source explained the morning session finished without tangible results, amid differences over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not restart fighting after the first phase of the arrangement.

He added that the talks are "challenging and have not yet produce any real breakthrough," but mentioned that intermediaries are making efforts to narrow the differences between the two sides.

Key Issues in Discussions

  • An enduring truce
  • The trade of the captives still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies provision
  • Future governance of the region

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling lived through the attack on the gathering, where hundreds were murdered and dozens more were abducted by Hamas fighters - explained: "No place appears as home any longer and until all the hostages return none of us will be secure."

"Once we see everyone home again, we can breathe once more. Then we can commence heal," she concluded.

Outside the prime minister's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people gathered to demonstrate their solidarity for the families of the hostages. Israel says nearly fifty continue in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev remarked: "We must do any agreement necessary for the hostages to be released. But we truly desire assurances that we will be secure."

Research now frequently demonstrate that approximately the majority of Israeli citizens desire the conflict to finish in as payment for the liberation of the hostages.

Gaza Conditions

At the site of Nova festival, mourners gathered to pay their respects.

From the site, the sound of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers indicated the intense Israeli shelling continued.

In the urban center, attacks were reported in the morning of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side area of the community, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwest.

"Once the evening comes, the fear appears with it," relocated urban resident a mother, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack last year, described.

"We are fearful of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, embracing, especially my little child who places his face on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we check the reports to see what happened. And I'm worried that this halt will not be achieved and that the fighting will come back to us."

Health Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City reported it had taken in the corpses of six people by the afternoon, including three who died in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of Khan Younis said another two victims had been transported. A person was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get assistance to the south, medics said.

Gaza's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
