The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
