Vince Zampella, the mind behind the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has tragically died in a traffic collision in Los Angeles, California he was 55 years old.

Zampella's death was announced by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, a game studio he co-founded.

The renowned industry figure passed away following his automobile collided and caught fire on a freeway in Los Angeles on Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This is an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, his loved ones, and everyone impacted by his legacy," an official with Electronic Arts said.
